MERCY SHIPS INTENSIVE

Mercy Ships intensive

This course is specially designed for Mercy Ship Volunteers. The Starter and intensive Courses are two consecutive course modules to build up

medical English.

Course aim

You’ll deepen the course contents of the Mercy Ships Starter, study your specialisation in more details and look at new topics used on the Ship. You will be able to speak with patients, translators, nurses and doctors on board: general medical English for everyday care situations as well as specific medical English for different medical fields.

Course contents

We’ll deepen and expand the topics of the Starter as well as your specialisation and look at new topics.  The contents will be based on the needs of the participants:

General surgery, Maxillofacial surgery, Plastic Reconstructive surgery, Women’s health, Ophthalmic care, Dental/ Oral health, Orthopedics, Radiology, Pharmacy, Anaesthesia, Admission, Outpatient, Recovery, Rehab etc.

The Basics of colloquial English will be repeated and deepened.

Course duration: 16h 40min./17h30min.

Certificate

You have the possibility to take the Certificate Test at the end of the course. If you pass it successfully, you will receive a certificate which you can enclose with future applications or include in salary discussions. At the end of the course, each participant will receive a course confirmation in Medical English, which can also be presented at the place of work.

Requirements

This course is suitable for you if you are recruited by Mercy Ships and have attended the Mercy Ships Starter.

Self-study, such as learning the vocabulary, is important in order to achieve the course objectives and to be able to enjoy communicating in English.

Free Language Test

The Free Language test gives me an accurate assessment of the English language level at which I can pick you up. It helps me to tailor the lessons to your needs. The test will be sent to you by e-mail after registration.

Course location

Thun: Burgsaal, (directly next to Thun hospital, 10 min. from the train station)

I also teach the course in Lausanne on request. Number of participants 4 or more. Dates on request.

Course costs

Fr. 580.-

Mercy Ships contributes Fr. 100.-  to the course costs.

As I share the vision of Mercy Ships with all my heart, there’s a reduction of Fr. 100.-

Final price: 380.-

Fees for the book, the Certificate Test and the Certificate are included.

Dates 2021

Course start: March 2021. The course will generally take place on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Other course days can be requested.

More courses will follow, probably in June and October 2021.

There are morning classes or afternoon classes available (9.00 a.m. or 1.30 p.m.). Evening classes can be requested.

The day of the course, the schedule and the type of the course will be arranged with the participants.

Information about Covit:

The classroom is 118m2 in size. This allows us to provide face-to-face lessons for classes of up to 10 people, in compliance with the safety measures.

Depending on the situation, the course could also be conducted twice with 4-6 participants each.
